I have booked a specific car. Is it sure I will get this model?
No, it can’t be assured you get the specific model. You can request a specific car, however you must be aware of the fact that suppliers reserve the right to replace certain models without prior notification. The advertised vehicle gives an indication of the category you have booked.
I am from abroad. Do I need an international drivers license?
No, not necessarily. Your national drivers license will do, provided that the license is valid, unendorsed, and in English. If your license is any other than that you will need an international drivers license.
How does the rental deposit work?
If you have chosen a package with excess, you will be required to have the full value on you credit card for a deposit. Once the vehicle is returned without damage the amount will be refunded. In case the car is damaged the repairs will be charged from the deposit and the remaining funds will be refunded.
However, a rental deposit is also required without excess, ranging from R1000 to R2000 depending on the supplier. This deposit will be refunded if the vehicle is returned with a full tank and on time. In case the car rental company has to re-fuel or the vehicle is returned too late these charges will be deducted from your deposit.
How old must I be to rent a car?
As an international driver you are required to be 21, as a South African driver you are required to be 23. Also you are required to have held a valid license for at least 2 years before renting a car.
However, if you are younger there are various options, so please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
What are general driving tips for South Africa?
Traffic is on the left side. Speed is limited to 60 km/h and on national roads to 120 km/h. Always wear your seat belt and do not talk on your mobile phone while driving, unless you are using a hands free kit. Another safety tip is to store your handbag under the seat and not on the seat, as this might encourage potential robbers.
I lost the car keys. Can I get new ones?
Sorry, that’s not possible. Spare keys are kept at the supplier’s head office. In case of key loss inform the supplier immediately and then tow the car back to the nearest depot for safekeeping where the locks can be changed.
I just had an accident, what do I have to do?
If the accident is involving a third party, get all their details: name, ID or passport number, address and telephone number, vehicle registration, make, and model. It is necessary that you contact the supplier as soon as possible, which means no later than 24 hours after the accident. You will have to give a detailed report to the supplier as well as to the nearest police station. The case number you will be given has then got to be reported back to the supplier.
